Vice-Senior General Maung Aye inspects regional development tasks in Sagaing Division

NAY PYI TAW, 10 Feb— Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) Vice-Senior General Maung Aye visited the Ingyin Garden in Kanbalu on 7 February. The garden is located 1 mile and four furlongs north of Kanbalu and is under construction by local people. During the visit, Vice-Senior General Maung Aye viewed the fossil of Ingyin Tree (Pentacme suavis) which is 160 ft long and 14 ft in circumference. The fossil of the hardwood tree was discovered in the Field No. 534 of Farmer U Myint San in June, 2005. Afterwards, Vice- Senior General Maung Aye and party also viewed the other fossil of Ingyin Tree (Pentacme suavis) which is over 124 ft long and was discovered in the eastern field of Paittukan in June, 2007.According to geologists, it is estimated that those fossils are about 1.2 million or 1.8 million years old.
Deer, monkeys, birds, crocodiles, rabbits, parrots and peacocks are kept for the public and shady trees are also planted in the garden. Afterwards, Vice-Senior General Maung Aye and party went to Thaphanseik Dam which was inaugurated in Kyunhla Township in 2001. At the briefing hall of the dam,Director of the Irrigation Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation U Soe Nyunt reported to Vice-Senior General Maung Aye on facts about the dam. During the tour, Vice- Senior General Maung Aye inspected the storage of water and the intake and output channels of the dam. Before Thaphan-seik Dam was constructed, Kaboe Dam irrigated about 280,000 acres of rice fields in every rainy season. On completion, Thaphanseik Dam has irrigated over 800,000 acres rice fields in the rainy and summer yearly via Kaboe and Kintat diversion dams.Besides, the dam has supported water to the Hydropower plant constructed at the dam to generate electricity and the dam has become the multi-purpose one. After the inspection tour of the dam, Vice-Senior General Maung Aye and party went to Seikphumyaung Village in Kanbalu Township where local villagers, members of social organizations and officials concerned welcome them. Vice-Senior General Maung Aye visited the clinic and library of the village and presented gifts to the aged and donated books and periodicals to the library. Afterwards, they proceeded to Myaydu Village and paid homage to Buddha Images at Shwezigon Pagoda and Shwegu Myint Pagoda. They attended a ceremony to open a self-reliant clinic in the village of Natpay. Minister for Education Dr Chan Nyein and wife formally opened the clinic and Head of Sagaing Division Health Department Dr Kyaw Shein unveiled the signboard of the clinic.
After the ceremony, Vice-Senior General Maung Aye and party inspected the clinic. They also went to the monastery in the village and donated offertories to the Sayadaw of the monastery. At the meeting with local people at the monastery, CEC Member of Union Solidarity and Development Association Minister Dr Chan Nyein thanked local people for their participation in implementing the development the village in selfreliant basic. Aftewards, Daw Mya Mya San, wife of Vice- Senior General Maung Aye, Minister Dr Chan Nyein and Minister Brig- Gen Thura Aye Myint presented gifts to local people.
