Volunteers honoured for their contributions to cultivation of monsoon paddy in storm-hit Labutta Township

YANGON, 14 Sept— Chairman of Ayeyawady Division Peace and Development Council Commander of South-West Command Brig-Gen Kyaw Swe attended the ceremony to honour volunteers who contributed to ploughing in cultivation of monsoon paddy in storm-hit Labutta Township, at Pyinnya Yadana Hall of Myaungmya Basic Education High School No. 1 on 9 September.
The commander presented certificates of honour and gifts to chairmen of Myaungmya, Wakema and Einme Township PDCs. Volunteers from Myaungmya Township ploughed 4,082 acres of farmlands with the use of 105 in 11 villages of Laygwagyi Village-tract in storm-hit Labutta Township. Those from Wakema Township also ploughed 3,180 acres of farmlands with the use of 120 power-tillers in nine villages of Phonegyikon
Village of Labutta Township. Those from Einme Township ploughed 2,642.50 acres of farmlands with the use of 100 power-tillers in eight villages of Saluseik Village- tract in Labutta Township.
The exhibition on farming implements manufactured by Myaungmya Industrial Zone was held for meeting the target production of summer paddy in 2008-09. The commander viewed natural fertilizers, paddy strains of the district, insecticides and insects of paddy displayed by Myanma Agriculture Service at the hall and instructed the farmers to extend cultivation of high yield paddy strains suitable for the region.
The commander inspected paddy combine harvester, weeding machine and gasifier manufactured by Pyae Son Industry of Myaungmya, paddy husk fired power generator by Kyaw Thitsa Industry and water pump, paddy combine harvestor and farm implements by
Yadana Industry. After hearting the reports of the officials, the commander gave necessary instructions.
