US soldier dies in non-combat related incident

BAGHDAD, 28 Jan— An American soldier died in a non-combat related incident in Iraq, the US military said on Saturday. A soldier assigned to Multi-National Division — Centre (MND-C) died on Friday, a brief military statement said, without specifying the location of the incident. The incident is under investigation, it said. MND-C, also known as Task Force Marne, is responsible for security in areas located along the southern edge of Baghdad and stretch to the border of Saudi Arabia in the west and to the Iranian border in the east. The latest death brings the number of US soldiers who have been killed in Iraq to more than 3,930 since the outbreak of the US-led war on Iraq in 2003, according to media account based on Pentagon figures.
