Walking race to mark International White Cane Day

Yangon Mayor’s Cup Walking Race to mark International White Cane Day was held in front of People’s Square and People’s Park on Pyay Road in Dagon Township, here, this morning.
As soon as a gun was fired into the air to start the race, Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Mayor Brig-Gen Aung Thein Lin took part in the race together with the vicemayor, officials and 870 blind contestants from respective schools for the blind starting from People’s Square and People’s Park to Pyay road th Arts Competitions 1. safeguard the national culture and character In his meeting with local peasants, the minister explained matters related to per acre yield of 1,600 viss cotton from Ngwechi-6 staple cotton and looked into progress in building the embankment.Pyidawtha lake can supply water to 650 acres of farmlands as well as drinking water.
In Theingon village, the minister and party met with cotton growers, attended to the needs and oversaw thriving Ngwechi-6 staple cotton plantation of cotton grower Daw Maw.

and then to Phonegyi street and Maha Bandoola Road.
On their way to the finishing line, staff of Dagon, Lanmadaw, Latha, Pabedan and Kyauktada townships Development Affairs Committees, members of social organizations and the people welcomed and encouraged the blind contestants and provided them with refreshments.
Next, a ceremony to present prizes to schools for the blind was held at the City Hall and the Mayor made a speech on the occasion and he presented the cup and gifts to officials concerned.
Afterwards, Secretary U Aung Than Win of YCDC and Dr Daw Khin Hsan Nwe, wife of the mayor, put spectacles on the blind children and then Member U Nyi Nyi of YCDC presented prizes to winners in the 7 th Chess Tournament organized by Myanmar Association for the Blind. On behalf of the blind contestants, Ma The Mon Pyae spoke words of thanks.
Next, families of Yangon Kandawgyi Natural Gardens donated K 1,930,000 to schools for the blind. Students from schools for blind presented songs and music and wellwishers donated cash.
